As a year 10 student who will soon have to make serious decisions about my future, it was important to find a work experience placement that would teach me about an industry I was interested in but knew very little about.
This past week at Agent and Agent Academy has not only been extremely insightful but has also given me the opportunity to explore the different parts of the company and allowed me to gain valuable, real-world experience that I will carry with me in the future.
As I previously mentioned, I walked into Agent’s office with the knowledge that it was a marketing agency and really nothing else. But I left day one with an understanding of all the different departments of the company, and its sister social enterprise, Agent Academy. Through developing my knowledge in meetings, training, and panels, I learnt a few valuable lessons:
1. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.
The best thing you can offer a company is experience, so get involved. This could be through events, work experience, apprenticeships, networking or just getting in touch with the company.
2. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
If you want to know more about somebody’s role, ask! If you are unsure about something, ask! If you want some guidance on where to go next, ask! Most of the time, people will be delighted to answer.
3. It’s never too early to start thinking about your future career.
Don’t wait for the right time, the right time is now. The more you do, the more connections you make, the more experiences to look back on, the better. So, get started!
Thank you so much to Agent and Agent Academy for everything you have shown me. I feel like I have learned so much in such a short space of time and I can’t wait to continue into my future guided by everything I have learned.
